Submersible Pump Catalog The centrifugal pump catalog is provided by the manufacturer and includes pump specifications such as pump dimensions, materials of construction, performance curves and tables, and other pump details. As mentioned earlier, the electric submersible pump is a centrifugal pump connected to an electric motor. This pump is used in both water and wastewater. The pump operates by the electric motor causing the impellers inside the pump to rotate. This rotation causes the fluid to be pumped through a diffuser and transferred into the desired pipe. In submersible water pumps, adding one impeller typically increases the pump pressure by up to 9 PSI. These pumps come in various types, classified according to the water discharge rate or flow rate. You should pay attention to selecting your submersible pump in proportion to the volume, height, and amount of work you intend to perform. This pump must have a head of at least 90 meters to be distinguished from a suction pump. Operation of the Electric Submersible Pump Submersible pumps operate in a vertical position. Fluids are accelerated by the impeller and lose their kinetic energy in the diffuser, which converts kinetic energy into pressure energy. This is the main operating mechanism of radial and mixed-flow pumps. The pump shaft is connected by a mechanical coupling at the end of the pump to the gas separator or protector. Liquids enter the pump through the inlet plate and are taken up by the pump stages. Other parts of the submersible also include radial bearings distributed along the shaft that provide radial support to the pump shaft. The bearings absorb an optional portion of the axial forces generated by the pump, but most of these forces are absorbed by the axial bearing of the protector. Submersible pumps also contain a type of steel screw used as an active element in the pump, and the screw allows the pump to operate in water with high sand content and other mechanical impurities. Applications of the Electric Submersible Pump Multistage submersible pumps are typically lowered into the bottom of wells and are mostly used in water wells and oil wells for extracting residential, commercial, municipal water, and industrial fluids. Of course, the most common application of submersible pumps is pumping water from deep wells. Other applications of submersibles include boosting and increasing water pressure in agriculture and farming, industrial water supply systems such as mines, clean water transfer in irrigation and agriculture, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, drilling water wells and deep wells, wastewater treatment plants, fish farming ponds, extracting clean water from wells, firefighting and fire suppression, groundwater drainage, residential water supply systems, booster stations, offshore drilling rigs, artificial lifts, water treatment facilities, emergency water supply, use in fountains, industrial washing, flood control, wastewater pumping, industrial pumping, water well pumps, slurry pumps, and use in power plants.
